Introduction of SSO

Sujag Sansar literally means “awakening the world”, is registered non-governmental organization established and registered in January 2005 under Societies Act XXI of 1860. SSO is a right-based development organization working for the marginalized in most backward areas. The organization is joint effort of persons & energetic youth and well experienced in human rights and political activism and with a burning desire to bring positive change in the society. SSO is based in Dadu district with its some interventions in entire Sindh province. SSO is working/worked with reputed national and international organizations on human rights, child rights, child marriages, women rights, child labour, GBV, environment protection, climate change, culture and peace, health and hygiene promotion, DRR, WASH and flood emergency relief. SSO is working/worked with Pathfinder International, WaterAid Pakistan, Hisaar Foundation, Mundo Cooperante, UNICEF/Federal Ombudsman, UNFPA/ UNAGTF, Amplifychange, The Norwegian Human Rights Fund (NHRF), NRSP/USAID, DAI, International Rescue Committee (IRC), International Red Cross, Catapult, TRDP/ Oxfam Novib, HANDS, Fund for Global Human Rights (FGHR) and Solidarites International.

Initiatives by SSO

Child Protection Programs

(i) With the support of NHRF launched project against child marriages in Dadu, Jamshoro, Hyderabad and Umerkot districts of Sindh from 2010 to 2015.
(ii) SSO with the support of UNFPA/UNAGTF and Catapult started projects in Dadu district against the child marriages in 2012 & 2013.
(iii) With the support of Amplify Change, SSO raised awareness through innovative theater tools on child protection and child rights.
(iv) SSO got support for this project after applying and wining 2nd national Award from 3 national awards on the international day against child labour by Federal Ombudsman/National Commissioner for Children/UNICEF.

Water Management

(i) With the support of Fund for Global Human Rights (FGHR) SSO utilized extensive mobilization to mobilize, organize and sensitize communities. SSO utilized theater, video documentaries and communities meetings to organize and sensitize communities on the water issue in the area.


WASH

(i) SSO with the partnership of WaterAid Pakistan is providing WASH Facilities in 13 villages of Taluka Johi in Dadu District under the Project tilted “Wash flood emergency response for flood affected communities in taluka Johi, district Dadu, Sindh

Health

SSO imparted health awareness on various health problems through easy to understanding, interesting and effected sensitization tool of theater plays.


Environment Protection & Climate Change

Besides making efforts to prevent tree cutting spree, SSO took lead in mobilizing concerned government department, local government, civil society and media in plantation of trees and promoting tree plantation culture

Promotion of Peace & Culture

(i) SSO started project with the support of DAI. Through this project SSO trained 20 folk musicians who promoted the peace through performing the folk music events in their areas.
(ii) With the support of NRSP/SGAFP SSO trained 07 folk music groups of taluka Johi comprising on total 56 members. After trainings these groups performed at various locations of the taluka and awake the communities on the importance of peace through folk music.


DRR and Humanitarian Assistance:

(i) SSO selected willing and active youths from each village of Kachho and trained 213 youth on DRR and also linked them with government and other humanitarian organizations for training and volunteering their service in wake of the flood or any other natural disasters.
(ii) In Response to disasters 2007 & 2010 SSO mobilized 40 volunteers of local CBOs, facilitated E-media & local government to expand relief services on time. While SSO undertaken relief activities with help of BHPB, DCHD, PMA, District Government & 12 UC Nazims of respective UCs in 3 Talukas of Dadu.
(iii) Hisaar Foundation collaborated with SSO to reach out to those stranded flood affected families in taluka Johi of Dadu District who could not evacuate and were in desperate immediate need for food and other needs.

Sujag Theater Group

Sujag Theater Group of SSO has performed large number of theatres in area on the various themes of human rights, health care, scarcity of drinking water, early marriages, WASH and DRR.
