Johi taluka is one of the most backward areas of Sindh. According to 1998 census total population of the area is 207383. In all indicators i.e. health education, human resources development, it remains backward. Major source of the income of the residents of Taluka Johi is agriculture, live-stock and rope making but due to shortage of irrigation water 80 per cent of land has been rendered barren.

Western part of Taluka Johi called Kachho; a sandy trek is solely rain dependent where either longer spells of drought or occasional floods keep the lives of the dwellers tough. Women and children suffer the most from all adverse effects of man made and natural disasters. Children especially girls are discriminated on education, diet, expression of their opinion and on various other facilities and rights. Children are treated with scorn and reprimanded whenever they express their opinion.

In additions due to the reduction of main income from the agriculture the extra burden of income generation has befallen on women and girls thus they have to work more in engaging handicrafts and rope making etc to meet their household expenses. The burden of overwork malnutrition destroys their health. But most unfortunately instead of acknowledging their enormous contribution they are being treated as machines and chattel. Marriages are arranged by male family head without any consent of the Females.
